Renewable energy


The group’s activities in renewable energy are carried out through the company Fred. Olsen Renewables AS. The company focuses and delivers services into the onshore wind market.

The overall strategy is to participate from the early stages of a project and to deliver services throughout the project life cycle with services such as; site selection, planning and construction.

Wind energy is a key part of Europe’s total energy production and is growing in significance. Fred. Olsen Renewables AS is investing in the future of renewable energy and is contributing into the development on how to produce greater efficiency through new production technologies in wind turbine design, manufacture and the application of wind modeling.

With the head office located in Oslo, the company owns and operates eight wind farms, of which six wind farms in Scotland (Crystal Rig, Crystal Rig II, Rothes, Rothes II, Paul’s Hill and Mid Hill, one in Norway (Lista) and one in Sweden (Fäboliden). The six operating wind farms in Scotland are owned 51% by the company.

By first quarter of 2016 Fred. Olsen Renewables AS had installed capacity of 582.1 MW in production. In addition Fred. Olsen Renewables has a portfolio of development projects onshore in the UK, Norway and Sweden as well as offshore Ireland.
